British Columbia - Sea to Sky, Part II

Another glorious day!  We are still along the Sea to Sky Highway.  Here is a map of our route.

The highway starts at Horseshoe Bay (just to the west of Vancouver on the map), hugs Howe Sound, and then heads up to the mountains toward Whistler (site of the 2010 Winter Olympics) and beyond.

Our campsite at Alice Lake Provincial Park (about halfway up the blue line) was a mere 50 steps away from this view.

Heading out of Alice Lake, we see snowcapped mountains (hard to see in the picture).

We continued north along the Sea to Sky Highway heading for Nairn Falls Provincial Park (the top end of the blue line on the map) – more ups and downs and twists and turns, but the scenery was still spectacular.

We stopped at Brandywine Falls, hiked to the falls, and hiked to a further viewpoint.

We settled in to our campsite at Nairn Falls and then hiked the 3km roundtrip to the falls.  The trail was a gradual up and down, but there was a very steep bank on one side to a fast flowing river. Like most of the streams, the water was green due to the glacial runoff.

As we approached the falls, we heard a rumble like a freight train, and thought the falls must be really loud. They were, but there also really was a passing freight train!  :-)

We appreciate the difference and beauty of each waterfall.
