We continue to enjoy our lakefront vacation home! This is the view if you walk down to the
water.
Since it is such a lovely spot, Bill decided to take a rest
day. Barbara did a ranger-led walk on the other side of the lake. Turns out we
had already met the ranger at the visitor center four days ago, and his
taciturn answers then weren’t that helpful. But Ranger Greg was in his element
during the walk, teaching about trees and telling stories and quotes as the
trail meandered through ancient trees to Marymere Falls.
“Our trees are living history. Each has
a story to tell…” Barbara now thinks she knows the difference between a Western
Hemlock and a Douglas Fir. Here is a
Douglas Fir.
This gives you an idea of size.
The walk ended at the 90-ft high Marymere Falls.
Then Barbara walked to Lake Crescent Lodge
and enjoyed the view
from this chair.
Barbara collects stamps in her National Parks Passport book,
so wanted to end the outing by going to the ranger station to get the
stamp. Who should she run into but
Ranger Greg. Barbara mentioned how she
appreciated the guided walk and then Greg asked excitedly, “Hey! Would you like
to see a Barred Owl?” “Sure!” So he took
her on this path nearby and there way up in the tree was the owl.
Back at the campsite, our day ended just sitting by the
lake. :-)
