With the fog lifting at our campsite, we see the ocean!
We debated on a coastal vs. inland outing and decided to go
to the Ozette Lake Area of Olympic National Park and hike to the ocean. There is a 9-mile triangular loop trail with
a 3-mile walk to the coast, a 3-mile walk along the shore, and a 3-mile walk
back on a different trail. That would have been great to do, but the tide was coming in
and Barbara didn’t feel up to the longer hike, so we settled on just going out and
back on one of the trails. The
relatively flat trail went through coastal forest.
We ran into very few people and about half of them backpacked
in to camp on the beach. We asked 3
people if it was foggy. The responses
were:
it’s clear,
the fog is lifting, and
it’s foggy.
So, which was it? … Well it was foggy. We could hardly see the seastack to the right
of Bill.
So we guessed the professions of the people who gave us the
forecast:
a used car salesman (clear)
a politician (the fog is lifting),
and
an engineer (foggy).
The coastal geography was interesting and different from
what we are used to. We also found life
amidst the tidepools.
Our day ended with an email that our daughter Carrie safely
arrived at her final destination in Uganda. :-)
