British Columbia - Pacific Rim, Part I

You might think, if you don’t know the geography around here, that Vancouver is on Vancouver Island, but it is not.  Yesterday we were in Vancouver (the city) and today we headed for Vancouver Island.  We caught the 7:45 ferry for the 2-hour ride, parking on the lower level with trucks and other RV’s. Here is a view of Vancouver Island from the ferry.

We landed in Nanaimo on the East side of Vancouver Island and then drove 3 hours to the West side – a scenic drive, but more steep hills and turns (including an 18% grade!).  Bill didn’t seem to mind the drive and didn’t say “This is nuts” even once!

We love our campsite!  The last two nights we stayed at a crowded, noisy campsite where the next campsite was a stone’s drop (not a stone’s throw) away.  The campsite we are in now has no view of neighbors, just a view of the ocean through trees, and we hear the waves crashing on the shore.

We didn’t have any activities planned after arrival, which was fine as it allowed us to explore the campground’s beautiful private beach.

Who's up on those rocks?
