Newfoundland – Lighthouses & More

We drove a long dirt road to King’s Cove with not much to see along the way except a beautiful red bird with black wings and a sign for “Old Fart’s Road.” We set the GPS for the lighthouse, but when we got to the location saw no lighthouse. So we backtracked to where we saw a hiking sign by a church parking lot, and found the Lighthouse Trail.

A nice couple told us about the trail and said to make sure we took the spur trails to all the viewpoints. We saw several icebergs in the distance as we started the hike.
We climbed up to the lighthouse.
And then went to the other viewpoints.

We spotted what looked like fresh moose tracks, so walked quietly and kept our eyes open, but no moose. :-(

After our hike we decided to go back to Elliston and see the puffins since they were so much fun to watch.

We topped the day off with a trip to the Fort Point Lighthouse situated in the middle of Trinity Harbour. We had seen it from Trinity and from Skerwink Head, but to get to it we had to take a long, windy, hilly, bumpy, one-car wide dirt road. Tricky maneuvering when we came upon an oncoming car. The fog and wind moved in, so with wind chill in the 30s, we didn’t linger. Nevertheless we got a letterbox and had a good vantage point of Trinity and Skerwink Head.
