Maine – Acadia National Park

Carrie had some days free between graduation and a trip to Europe, so we took a spur-of-the-moment trip to Acadia National Park in Maine. We used to vacation there often, but hadn’t been in a long time.

We took a bit of a detour on the way to stop at our favorite lobster place – Shaw’s Fish & Lobster Wharf in New Harbor.
My! What big claws you have!
Once at Acadia National Park, we hiked a bit. Barbara dropped Bill and Carrie off at the northern end of Champlain Mountain while she drove to the southern end where she hiked to meet them.
Bill and Carrie also hiked up Sargent Mountain while Barbara explored the carriage trail bridges.

We spent time by the ocean listening to the sounds and watching the waves crash into the rocky coast. We used to call it “plopping.” Acadia National Park is one of our favorite places for plopping.
We went to Jordan Pond for tea, which wouldn’t be complete without their yummy popovers. We saw the mountains known as “the Bubbles” through the window, but we missed tea on the lawn – which they do in the summer.

One evening we drove up Cadillac Mountain to watch the sunset.
We made good memories on this trip and also reminisced about previous times we were here. Since we were taking Carrie to Maine right after graduation, Barbara couldn’t help but think of the trip she took here with her parents right after her graduation.
