We chose a mostly coastal route for this trip to try to
avoid freezing temperatures, but the temps dipped below freezing two nights
while on the Outer Banks.

Fortunately it did not stay freezing long and we stayed
toasty in our trailer. We were also fortunate that the temperatures in North Carolina rose
before we turned inland.
We headed due west to the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill Area to
visit college friends of Barbara’s, Johnn and Christine. Meeting their
13-year-old son (whom we hadn’t ever seen) reminded us how long it was since we
last visited. We stayed at a nice wooded campground on a big lake near them –
Crosswinds Campground at Jordan Lake State Recreation Area. (Thanks to Johnn
who recommended it!)
We met them at the Nantucket Grill & Café, getting a
little taste of Massachusetts
on our way there. We both ordered the “Cranberry Bog” sandwich and enjoyed the Nantucket décor and their yummy cakes, but especially
appreciated reconnecting with Johnn and Christine.
Afterwards we all visited Duke University.
The campus reminded us of other gothic-styled campuses, but it used a nice mix
of varied colored stone. We were lucky to arrive between weddings to take a
peak in the chapel – Duke’s landmark. The campus has a nice feel especially
with spring trees blooming.
Barbara noticed this 3-panel quilt called “Tree of Life.”
Nice to spend a pleasant day with old friends.
