Maine – Quoddy Head

When we travel we see an abundance of superlatives – signs announcing the biggest, the tallest, the first, the highest… You can guess what the superlative for the day is. In 1808 West Quoddy Head Light became the easternmost lighthouse in the United States.

The rocky cliffs and dense fog necessitated a lighthouse. Now it’s a State Park with a lighthouse and trails. We hiked the Coastal Trail and mostly had it all to ourselves. We love trails that hug the rocky shoreline.

Here we got a glimpse of the lighthouse.

Barbara seems to find a pile of stones to photograph wherever we go.

The setting sun peaked out just before we left.

We camped at the “Easternmost Campground in the US” with the end of the peninsula all to ourselves.
