Oregon – Southern Coast – Seastacks & Lighthouses

We woke up to fog – not the best thing for coastal sightseeing – but fortunately it became just overcast. We first stopped at the Coquille River Lighthouse in Bullards Beach State Park and also walked a bit of the beach.

Then we went to Kronenberg County Park in Bandon where we took the long stairway down to the beach and walked amongst the seastacks.

Just down the road is Face Rock State Scenic Viewpoint.  Perhaps you can spot the silhouette of a face looking upward.
We decided this one should be called “Bunny Rock.”

The gate was closed to the Cape Blanco lighthouse, but we walked up the long road, buffeted by high wind. Evidently the cape is known for its winds. We had the lighthouse to ourselves except for two deer.

Now we’ve seen 6 of the 8 remaining public lighthouses in Oregon. Here are the ones we’ve seen (the first three we saw on our previous trip).

We’ll have to come back to visit the last two.

Route 101 from Bandon to Brookings has coastal overlooks and we stopped at several.

We arrived at our campsite at Harris Beach State Park just before sunset. We postponed dinner - even though Bill was hungry :-) - and climbed down the path to the beach.

Bill climbed to the top of the rock to take a picture. Do you see him?

Here’s the picture he took.
